A lesson in adapting your work space

Sometimes my office morphs into a sewing studio. I just finished sewing down the design on Darcy's 9 year old birthday shirt. Applique takes a lot of eye focus and small shoulder / hand movements. My tip that you can apply in different places is to look at your alignment, if bad, see what you can adjust.

Here, I use my massage stool because it can go up and down quite a bit. Sometimes I need over my machine, sometimes I need to look at the presser foot. Moving the stool and not my shoulders keeps me out of pain. I also get an easy rotation from the stool - NOT from my spine or shoulder girdle. Need to work on something to the right of the machine? ROLL there, not reach or lean.

This is why we have long conversations about what you do for fun and work. Are there things to adjust to work smarter and keep you out of pain?

PS - Happy birthday, Darcy! You keep doing you!

A Session with Kyle Wright

In July 2014 I took a road trip in North Carolina to Asheville in order to receive a session from Kyle Wright, LMBT. Kyle was the founder of the massage school that I graduated from and taught at for five years.  During my two hour NMT session I got to feel how Kyle's structural work has changed.  I'll be integrating some of his communication skills, techniques and slower paced style.

Where is Kyle teaching now?

An update, Kyle has since relocated his school back to Charlotte, NC. I’ve gotten to stop by through the years since my parents still live nearby and visit. I was on staff at the original Charlotte location and it is wonderful to know that the administrator is still there and the lead teacher was one of my students then turned fellow staff members.
